The high dispersion of fundamental sciences involved in this multidisciplinary field has been contributing to the spreading of the main required training competences as well as research expertise by several research groups and Universities spread in different European countries. Alea Jacta EST will create an "interconnected" PhD that will represent an enormous advance with respect to the most conventional "sandwich" PhD concepts ( where students spend alternate periods in two different institutions ). Accordingly, the students will have an easy access to a range of several institutions that possess the most appropriate know-how and tailor their mobility in function of the most appropriate training necessities and at the right timing.
The students should be appointed by only one institution among the Alea Jacta EST partners. However, it should be noticed that the mobility between the participant's host institutions should not be restricted when an Early Stage researcher chooses to apply to this kind of scholarships. In this way, t he students will be appointed by one institution, but at the same time can visit relevant sites within the Alea Jacta EST consortium for short periods.
It should be noticed that training will not be restricted to academic partners, but also available to companies' employees, since they are fundamental partners for the generation of added value products and contributing to the Early Stage researchers training on product development and commercialisation process. This will allow for industrial recruited students to be trained in academia and the students and researchers from academic partners to be able to spend some time in industry.
